How to Avoid Feeling Isolated This Summer

Happy Friday, RISERS! I hope this week has been good to you. Here in Knoxville, we have made it to the last full week of school, and I know that the year has ended already in some areas of the state. I have enjoyed working every day this semester and look forward to next year in middle school.

Quote of the week: “Never say never because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.” –Michael Jordan

Movie of the week: This week I want to recommend the most recent Charlie Brown moviewhich was released in 2015. The Peanuts Movie delivers on themes that include a new girl in school, friendly competition within the gang, and a good lesson on being true to yourself when others believe something about you that’s not true. In this case, Charlie Brown must admit a mistake on a grade, but he still “wins,” because his character is solid. I think you’ll enjoy the Snoopy storyline, as well as the shenanigans of all the Peanuts gang.

Joke of the week: Why is it a waste to study history? Because there is no future in it.

Nugget of Wisdom for the week: Since it is the end of the school year, this week I want to encourage you to pick one or two friends—fellow students, or just acquaintances—and commit to reaching out to them over the summer. You never know who has no one to connect with at home and may feel isolated. I’m not suggesting constant contact, but maybe you could send these friends a text a couple of times a month to let them know they crossed your mind and that you hope they are having a good summer. If you are the only contact they have other than their family, it would mean more than you could possibly imagine.

Have a great week. Remember, you are most awesome and YOU ROCK!
