Ways to Slow Down, Let Loose, and Get Organized

Happy Friday, RISERS! I hope this week has been good to you. As the weather gets cooler, the leaves will now hasten their turning to the long-awaited colors of red, orange, yellow, and brown. Here in Knoxville, Fall Break begins this coming week. If a school break is just around the corner for you, too, I hope you’ll get to use some of the time off for rest and relaxation. Take a nap. Go for a walk or a run. Call a friend you haven’t seen for a while. Read a book just for fun. Do anything that brings you relief from your regular hectic pace.

Quote of the week: “Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.” –Jim Bishop

Song of the week:  I want to introduce you to an “oldie but goodie.” This song, “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & the Papas, was released in 1965. It is a neat song with terrific flute music. This group had a few other hits, including “Monday, Monday” and “Dedicated to the One I Love.”

Joke of the week: Why are trees so carefree and easygoing? Because every fall, they let loose.

Nugget of Wisdom for the week: What I want to talk to you about this week is more of an organizational tip than a nugget of wisdom. With the cooler weather, this is a great time to put away your tank tops, shorts, and sandals and to bring out your sweaters and hoodies. While you’re at it, purge any torn, stained, or ill-fitting clothes to make room for any new purchases you might make. Please consider donating any shoes you have outgrown to a worthy cause. Another clothing item you may not normally think about is those glasses you no longer need because your prescription changed. The Lion’s Club works to give eyeglasses to people who need them. Last but not least, early autumn is a good time to check the batteries in your smoke detectors and to weatherize your vehicle, if you have one.

Have a great weekend. Remember, you are most awesome, and YOU ROCK!
